CLICK ON THE SOCKEYE TIMER TO LOG YOUR MINUTES

The Eager Reader program is a wonderful reading program sponsored by Sunset’s PTA.  It is a voluntary program designed to improve students’ reading skills and to develop a love of reading.  This is a great opportunity for parents and children to connect through the shared enjoyment of reading!

IMPORTANT: TO ENSURE YOUR CHILD RECEIVES AWARDS FOR MINUTES EARNED, PLEASE VERIFY THAT YOUR CHILD'S CURRENT CLASSROOM TEACHER IS ASSIGNED TO THEIR PTA ACCOUNT. YOU CAN VERIFY OR UPDATE YOUR CHILD's GRADE AND TEACHER BY CLICKING HERE

 HOW IT WORKS

  • Students read and record the minutes they read between October 1 and April 30.
  • You are asked to post the minutes read during each month period by 10pm on the last day of each month.
  • You can post daily, or enter the total minutes within one date box online. (If you miss the deadline, submit the minutes in the next month!)

As students reach certain goals, they earn great prizes, including free books! By registering your child for Eager Reader, you will receive emails regarding important information about the program periodically. The email address used is the email you entered when you signed up for the PTA website.

HOW MUCH DO STUDENTS NEED TO READ?

We encourage each student to read as much as he or she can.  You can work towards the award goals below, but remember that not every child will reach this level of participation.

  • Pre-School/Kindergarten/1st Grade (400/award)  (2,400 minutes overall goal)
  • 2nd & 3rd Grade  (500/award) (3,000 minutes overall goal)
  • 4th & 5th Grade  (600/award) (3,600 minutes overall goal)

   REPORTING MINUTES

Submit your minutes by 10pm on the last day of each month.  If you miss the deadline, submit the missed minutes in the next month.

 Tips:

  • Read fiction, nonfiction, homework reading assignments, newspapers, …
  • Do NOT include minutes read during school hours.
  • Reading totals must be approved by a parent or guardian.
  • Report the number of minutes read, not the number of pages.
  • Include minutes spent reading to your children.
