Box Tops

Congratulations to Ms. Skroch’s kindergarten class for winning our Winter Boxtops for Education classroom competition!  Ms. Skroch’s class turned in 450 Boxtops and celebrated with a root beer float party.

Other top classrooms were:

2nd place, Ms. Blastos 2nd grade class

3rd place, Ms. Cress’ 3rd grade class

4th place, Miss Richardson’s 4th grade class

5th place, tie between Ms. Edwards kindergarten class and Ms. Brawner’s 4th grade class

A huge THANK YOU to all the students who participated.  We collected 3,522 total Boxtops to earn over $350 for Sunset

Please, keep collecting Boxtops, our final competition of the year will run April 3-June 2ndBox Tops are one of the simplest ways you can contribute to projects and programs at Sunset.  Each Box Top is worth 10¢.  Many grocery products you already purchase have Box Tops for Education on them including General Mills, Betty Crocker, Annies, Nature Valley, Pillsbury, Kleenex, Cascadian Farms, Ziploc and many more. All you need to do is clip them and turn them in at school in a baggy or envelope with both your child’s and teacher’s name written on it.  There is a collection bag and info board just inside the school entry.

Boxtops for Education program and competition are hosted by the Sunset PTA. To learn more about Boxtops for Education and a list of all participating products visit

Eager Reader Updates

In the past, the top 3 readers from each grade received recognition and a small gift card. Due to parent/teacher feedback, we have decided to change it to the top 10% by grade and instead of a gift card each child will receive a special Eager Reader ribbon and recognition a the Eager Reader party. Encourage your kids to keep reading so we can make the school year goal.

The party on the evening of June 1st will be for kids who have met their yearly reading goal. For Pre K / K / 1st it's 2400,  2nd/3rd grade 3000, 4th/5th grade 3600 minutes.  We are looking forward to a fun performance by Mrs Dorey, Mr. Merrill, and some of the other teachers if we can meet the school goal of 2.5 million minutes.

Remember minutes from Razkids and minutes for homework reading count towards your child's reading minutes.
